ENSURE THEIR SAFETY

If anyone is in danger or in fear it is important to act to keep them safe.

If it is an emergency, or anyone has been threatened or feels unsafe you should not hesitate to CALL THE POLICE emergency number (000 in Australia). The authorities and the laws of our countries are put there by God for our good and for the good of all men. It is important we use them to be safe.

If there is no immediate danger you can reach out to a domestic violence service (for instance, 1800 RESPECT in Australia). They will help a victim plan for their and their children's safety. They will explain what is happening to them and give them appropriate support to understand how the law can help them. If you don't know a local service google "domestic violence emergency" and your city, state or province name.  Most domestic violence services will also provide ongoing support and referral to other services they may need.

Read our blog article about responding to an emergency.

HELP IS AVAILABLE

Brothers and sisters in some countries have set up Christadelphian Support Services which operate telephone help services. Some of them provide their own telephone, skype or in person counselling services to brothers and sisters. Some are even willing to do this for brothers or sisters in need in different places without access to their own service.

They can also refer people to specialist or professional services for various needs you may have including financial support, emergency housing, depression, trauma, grief or other counselling.

As family and friends you can assist a victim to be able to access these services by calling ahead, understanding what they can offer and supporting them to make the call.
